Artist Profile: Fox Comet
Okay, so they’ve been around for about three years but believe me when I say, the recent hype is warranted.
Fox Comet is Nick Catto (bass, backing vox), Kyle Gray (drums), Stephane Corneloup (guitar) and Rob Coutts (vox, harmonica, alto sax) and to say that their performances are simply “entertaining”, would be an insult to their onstage X factor.
But let’s talk about their music first…
Their tunes have an obvious funk that is disgustingly contagious and the ska-eque groove inherent in them cannot be ignored, so much so that it’ll make even the lamest of wallflowers and most hardcore non-movers swing those stiff hips. Trust me, I’m one of them. Fox Comet is the only band besides Taxi Violence that you’ll catch me moving retardedly too.
Now whether he’s rocking his Ron Weasley (ginger’s unite) tee or some kind of retro floral-print shirt, the first time you watch Fox Comet perform, not only is it going to be impossible to remain still, but it’s going to be tougher to take your eyes off frontman Rob Coutts. For all sorts of reasons. The inclusion of his skills on sax and harmonica also adds a nice dynamic to the balance of rock, funk and ska in their music.
The chemistry between the band onstage is equally as great. They look like they’re having the time of their lives and it’s because of this that their devotees (Fox Comet’s following is so loyal it wouldn’t make sense to call them simply, fans) will follow them almost anywhere. Not even a sound fail at The Rock the River festival earlier this year could dampen their spirits mid-performance – or their audience’s.
Fox Comet are playing the Synergy Live Main Stage this year after tearing down the LMG Stage at the festival last year. The guys are also in the process of recording their first album, which I shall keep you in the loop about.
Alternatively, check them out on Facebook and follow them on Twitter to keep yourself in the loop.

I always feel the love at their gigs. Rightly deserved kudos for a hard-working and talented band. So much can be said about the industry, but the cream always rises to the top.
Well done lads – Synegy is going to be sick!
