Jozi Craft Beer Fest
I swear I’m the only Capetonian who plans a weekend away in Joburg.
I’m not complaining though because it turns out I’m in Joburg the same weekend as the second Jozi Craft Beer Fest at Marks Park Sports Club in Emmerentia, this Saturday.
Ah who am I kidding, I planned it to coincide this way.
The first Beer Fest was an enormous success with epic bands, delicious beer and food and a great crowd and you can be sure that they’ve taken steps to guarantee this one is even better.
Now I have a little confession to make, I don’t actually drink beer. I know, I know, but there are lots of people like me out there and what’s even better is that this festival caters to us too, with bars that sell a variety of other forms of refreshments too. Clever.
Breweries participating include:
- Darling Brew
- Copperlake Breweries
- 3 Skulls Brew Works
- De Garve Brewery
- The Cockpit Brewhouse
- De Garve Brewery
- Jack Black Brewery
- Robsons Brewery
- Clarens Brewery
- The Dog & Fig Brewery
- Citizen Brewery
- Boston Brewery
- Draymans Brewery
- Mitchells Brewery
- Brauhaus Am Damm Brewery
- Eversons Cider
- Mogallywood Brewery
- Nottingham Brewery
- Chameleon Brewery
- League Of Beers
- Jorgensens Craft Distillery
Now I’m giving away 2 tickets to the Jozi Craft Beer Fest and you best believe that these tickets are golden – you know the fest is going to sell out the same way it did last year.
All you have to do is leave a comment below and tell me which brewery’s stand you’re most looking forward to hitting and why. The more creative the better people. Winner will be notified by email on Thursday morning.
And for those of you who don’t win tickets, they are still available from Webtickets (R100) and also at the door (R120). Entry includes a branded beer mug. Kids under 3 years old are free and 3-18 years old are R50.
AAAND GO.

Does these tix come with a flight? Wish I could go too.
mitchell’s brewery. i love that pub, and have had many a good night there. now that I’m in joburg i haven’t had it in ages!!!
i like 2 minutes away from this place and i think it would be awesome if the Citizen brews escorted me back home after taking advantage of me.
Stay classy my fellow beer loving buddy!
you know always.
Having to pick one crafter’s store over another is like having to choose a favourite child. Luckily, I don’t have any kids so I’m going to have to go with Jack Black’s, since they’re in Cape Town, i’m not, and I miss them! Also, there’s the ever inspired League of Beer, saving the world, one alcoholic at a time by showing them the Truth of beer. The force is strong with them, and I need enlightenment…or at least a couple of beers…
Although I am looking forward to the buffet of beer from all of the above mentioned breweries… My taste buds and liver are waiting in anticipation to try some beer from Mogallywood Breweries. Reason being, as a professional drunkard (only on weekends and bad days) the name, Mogallywood will just roll of my drunken tongue and sound ever so fun even with a slur…
The name itself “Mogallywood” sound like the type of place I would love to click my heels to go to. Forget about Bollywood or Hollywood, let’s get some beer from Mogallywood!
Definitely the Brauhaus Am Damm Brewery! They make beer the way it was meant to be made! The way it’s been made for hundreds of years in Germany. I’ve made the trip out to the magaliesburg quite a few times now just for the amazing taste of some of the best beer in South Africa. If i’m given the opportunity to go to the Jozi craft beer fest, I will try to sample the beers of as many breweries as possible but it’s the Brauhaus that always wins my vote
My dentist and I had a (non-positive) breakthrough last week when we discovered proof that my left frontal lobe is drying out. Devastated, I insisted on spending the last couple of days exploring left frontal lobe re-hydrating options. Nothing. I cried on my Kawasaki Z200. I had no choice, I had to join a drying-left-frontal-lobe support group. It helped. After a week a fellow drying-left-frontal-lobe members convinced me to go for a second opinion. I was unsure. I went to his tannie Sandra, a old black woman that sells herbs on the sidewalks of Pritchard Street, Newtown. She convinced me that the only true way for my to re-hydrate my left frontal lobe is to drink from the mouth of the bottle of the brew. She said that she will show me the mouth of the one true brew if I take her to the sacred grass of the eem-mee-ree-nee-tjaa garden. She said it is only there, on the 13th of Oct, that we will find the one true brew that they call the Darling brew. I need the Darling brew. I need it for my drying-left-frontal-lobe! I need to know it powers so that I can inform the others in the drying-left-frontal-lobe support group. For the cure!
Darling Brew. Hands down. The cold, delicious, golden nectar that is Darling brew always makes my day just a little better. When I’ve had a hard day at the office, heading over to my local hangout in Jozi always gives me a taste of home. Or when I am a bit hungover on a Sunday, an afternoon spent sipping the wholesome brew at Market on Main always provides a welcome cure. It’s the sunshine to my cloudy day. It’s the honey to my Winnie the pooh. It is the very embodiment of summer in South Africa.
I’m looking forward to all of them, but will pick 3 that I will head to first:
1) Brauhaus Am Damm Brewery
2) Mitchells Brewery
3) 3 Skulls Brew Works
Aww go on then another 2:
4) The Dog & Fig Brewery
5) League Of Beers
Cheers,
Kevin
The only beer I want to pair my day with is Darling. Branding. Check. Packaging. Lekka. Taste- like a slow orgasm. Just me and my darling brew <3
Now this is a story all about how
My trip to Cape Town got turned around
And I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there
I’ll tell you how my life was changed by Mitchells beer
In north Johannesburg born and raised
My agency sent me to the Loeries for a couple of days
I was happy and excited, i was in the game.
Dreaming about drinking some amazing ale
When a few of us decided to get up to no good
We went out drinking before the awards
I went to one little bar and my agency got scared
And said, “if you miss your flight, you’re gonna be dead!”
I laughed and joked and ignored the threat
Until the next day when I woke up bent.
My team had gone, they were on the flight
My chances of making it were out of sight.
I got to the airport with my award in hand
Saw the price of the tickets and thought, “well isn’t this grand?!”
I gave them my card on got the next seat
Still drunk and tired, barely on my feet.
Two hours later and I was home and away
Remembering the beer that made my day.
I may have got drunk, I may have overslept
But the Mitchell’s beer was worth every cent.
I pulled to my house at about 7 or 8
And yelled to my boyfriend, “I’ll see you later”
I looked at my bed, I was finally there
To go to bed as rockstar thanks to Mitchell’s beer.
HAHAHAHAHA! AMAZING!!! You had me singing this out loud!
And it’s 100% true. Haha. Almost spent as much on beer that day as i did on a new plane ticket the next day :-/
Darling Brew my brew. Will a joke help me win those tickets? And now for a joke; Debating on what I’m going to be for Halloween. Thinking about going as a dish. Woman love doing dishes.
will have to be James Brewery cos they are from my zone of the world, Edenvale – so in support of my homies i will chug down any swill they serve in a keg – should be fun. *drinking mode ..on*
Coma, coma, coma, coma Chameleon Brewery!!! Texx and the City…you would make my universe!! I would love to go!!
THE BEST.
Oh Texx, DARLING
My friend and I, ROBSONS would like to party JACK BLACK style at the Jozi Craft Beer Fest. I am an upstanding beer loving CITIZEN with beer drinking capabilities that are sure to place me in the LEAGUE OF BEERS. In fact, my hobbies include drinking beer with the locals of CLARENS and MITCHELLS plein. Sometimes the party gets so out of hand, it feels like we’re on an episode of BOSTON legal. That’s why we’ve created secret identities. Mine is COPPERLAKE beer cobra, while ROBSONS goes by the name pappaBEER DE GARVE.
We can’t chose only only single favourite brewery because we plan on enjoying them all. In fact we plan on getting so beered-up! Who knows? We might start to hallucinate strange things. Like meeting a German speaking CHAMELEON named BRAUHAUS that is best friends with THE DOG & FIG. They all live in a COCKPIT with 3 SKULLS in the whimsical town of NOTTINGHILL.
Yup, that’s it in a nutshell. I can’t chose just one brewery so I’ll mention them all
Mitchell’s Brewery
I have no stories to tell, just the ultimate truth.
Mitchell’s Brewery brings out my inner stripper.
Thus, I would love these tickets as I engage on my future application to Magic Mike.
I have to think about this…
Do we know who got the tickets??
