Satanic Dagga Orgy Release ‘Zuma’s Knob’

"Zuma's spine? Traded in the arms deal in 1999."

Satanic Dagga Orgy are back with their trademark, upbeat folky chords, this time with their special brand of tongue-in-cheek commentary aimed straight at President Jacob Zuma.

Recorded live at Rocket Sound in Johannesburg by Jeremy C. Elwell and released online at 4:20 (obviously) you’d be forgiven for thinking, by looking at the title of ‘Zuma’s Knob’, that the song is merely about Zuma’s penis. Nah. Brett Murray’s “The Spear” took care of that.

“This is a song about our esteemed president and his wonderfully moving and elegant monument in Groot Marico, his litany of successes in business and his bulletproof morals and values. Ja right, this is a song about how sad and pointless the straw-man in the Union Buildings really is. Fuck Zuma,” Peter ‘Blackbeard’ Ferreira told me bluntly.

The Orj deliver searing lines like, “Have you seen Zuma’s knob? In a town with no water and hardly any jobs” and “Have you seen Zuma’s spine? Traded in the arms deal in 1999”. Ouch.

In a country where corruption has become commonplace, it’s heartwarming to see musicians take straightforward stands like this, even if it’ll never make its round on commercial radio (can you imagine??) at least it exists.
