Go The Rodeo release ‘Give Me Black’ video

A lyric video that’s striking in its simplicity.

Johannesburg based prog-electro rock outfit Go The Rodeo have released a lyric video for their new single ‘Give Me Black,’ a dark, brooding song born out of anxiety and introspection.

Opening line ‘I shut my eyes to stop the light from leaking through’ immediately sets the mood for a song as heavy as it is catchy.

The rhythm and the melody lines work together to create a soundscape that feels akin to not being able to get out of bed in the morning. It’s like there’s a sense of pressure in the song that won’t let up until it decides to.

At first glance it appears to be a straightforward lyric video until we’re greeted with the image of a man falling continuously through broody clouds. This endless free-fall has a monotonous quality that only aids in adding to the overall pressure of the song.

At its core ‘Give Me Black’ is a dark song, although it doesn’t stray too far from the rest of the group’s discography. Watch the video below.
