>Things are easy when you’re big in Japan – Alphaville

>So I recently decided to mission up to Joburg for a bit. Now I know what all you Cape Townians are thinking – WTF. It did have its pluses though, I swear. I regret that I didn’t attend any gigs (large FTV/house music shindigs seem to be a staple in Joburg) but I was introduced to the wonder of Cantina Tequila in my semi-comatose state and then endured Little Italy (Mellville) in my hangover state. Trying to order a pizza at The Antz (yes, this is indeed the name of the place) before 12 on Workers Day proved rather challenging. Luckily I was leaning against a wall that had saints plastered all over it, Jack in hand. My Catholic grandfather was probably turning in his grave. The place also smelt like a furnace, which is probably where they round up and roast the souls of drunken heathens like me. It was a great place.

Goldfish were playing at the Botanical Gardens the day I left. My logic told me, why pay for something that I’ve seen free at La Med close to fifty times? Logic – it always wins.

Also – Football Friday officially exists. I have seen it with my own eyes. Joburgers indulge in it. Nine months later, so will we.

Neyo was also in Joburg for a performance that apparently blew everyone out the water. Now @musicalmover did a quick survey recently on twitter to see who was excited to see Neyo, on a scale from 1 – 10. Apparently, I was the only person. Not that I bought a ticket or anything, I just think that it would’ve been a great gig to attend. The dude looks like a great performer. Anyway, turns out I was right and his concert in Joburg was such a success that some Joburg freaks phoned into 5fm and confessed buying tickets to his Cape Town gig, just to see him again. They obviously can’t spell obsessed. I must admit though, I would really like to see how he pulls of those Beyonce tracks (which he apparently included in his set list). Hmmm.

So while we’re on the whole international-acts-coming-to-Cape-Town Spandau Ballet will be here on 5th May at the Grand West Arena. They’ll be supported by ‘Big in Japan’ and ‘Forever Young’ dudes Alphaville. The possibility for jokes are endless – it’s like opening a can of worms, I won’t go there. Smedy’s taking his parentals, I think I might just take mine.

Side note: Paris, Texas was Kurt Cobain’s favourite movie. For pics of what went down at Klein Libertas on Friday with Die Antwoord, check out the alternative Parys, Texas for Inggs’ snaps. Fokken pragtig. Also: check this review and clip of Coachella too.

Hos jaaa (it’s good to be back).
