Drake dropped his second mix in one week after he previously dropped ‘Charged Up’, labeled as a “Meek Mill diss track” off the back of Meek Mill’s accusation that Drake didn’t write his own rhymes.
Some labeled ‘Charged Up’ as Meek Mill’s eulogy, and some correctly predicted Drizzy was gonna drop another one. He damn right did with ‘Back To Back (Freestyle)’ and this time the shots weren’t subliminal, they were all aimed straight at Meek Mill.
More lively than ‘Charged Up’, it’s clear he had fun in the studio. As per usual, pop culture references are all over the place, with Lethal Weapon, Michael Jordan’s ‘96/’97 season, and of course, Toronto. “You gon’ make me buy bottles for Charlamagne.”
Some of our favourite lines? “When I look back I might be mad that I gave this (the beef) attention” and “You gon’ make me buy bottles for Charlamagne.” Drake’s had a longstanding feud with The Breakfast Club DJ Charlamagne Tha God – famous for running his mouth about the Six God – and this situation is pushing Drake out of character.
“This for y’all who think I don’t write enough / You’re just mad because I got the midas touch”
What more can The Boy say?
“Is that a world tour, or your girl’s tour?” Meek Mill is currently touring with Nicki Minaj, his girl. This is as direct as any shot can get. After this line, he drops some further wisdom on Meek – emphasizing the fact that he knows Minaj better than Meek does. But Drizzy’s not done – he hands Minaj some advice. “Make sure you hit ’em with the pre-nup.” He doesn’t stop there.
Drizzy ends his song by saying he’s back to working on Views from the Six. He’s on top form, and proved his worth. Again and again.
Meek Mill is yet to respond.
