In this first interview since the horrific attack on the Bataclan in Paris where 89 people died, Eagles of Death Metal speak about their individual experiences during the rounds of gunfire.
It’s an emotional, harrowing 26 minutes and as each member speaks, the other place a hand reassuringly on backs as voices crack under the weight of the memory.
In a chilling account, sound engineer Shawn London recalled, “I was still standing up and I could see the gunman and he looked right at me and he shot at me and he missed and he hit my console and buttons went flying everywhere.”
But EODM will not be deterred by terror. As Josh Homme joins the band to speak to Vice’s founder Shane Smith about the future of the band, he triumphantly says that they will not give in to fear that these terrorists so desperately crave.
“I want to be the first band to play in the Bataclan when it opens back up,” frontman Jesse Hughes said. “Because I was there when it went silent for a minute. Our friends went there to see rock and roll and died. I want to go back there and live.”
