Watch Meryl Streep’s Poignant Acceptance Speech

Record-breaking 30-time Golden Globe nominee and Cecil B Demille award recipient Meryl Streep is a total bad-ass. During her acceptance speech at last night’s Golden Globe ceremony she made a point of calling out Donald Trump and his critique of Hollywood, foreigners and the press, and making a serious statement – all with half a voice.

“There was one performance this year that stunned me, it sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good, there was nothing good about it, but it was effective, and it did its job. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. It kind of broke my heart, and I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie.” Yeah, you forgot about that didn’t you?

She ended her speech on a moving note through the words of her late friend, Carrie Fisher. “As my friend, the dear departed Princess Leia said to me, ‘Take your broken heart and turn it into art.”

It’s Meryl’s talent, grace and courage in the wake of so much hate that make her an aforementioned bad-ass. No wonder Twitter’s calling for her to run for president. Watch the video below.
