Okzharp & Manthe Ribane To Play Black Major Selects

This is the first Cape Town event to showcase the unique collaboration between Okzharp and Manthe Ribane that has resulted in recorded music, written stories, artworks and more.

The creative duo’s much-anticipated live audio set for Black Major Presents will feature Ribane’s unique vocal and dance performance along with restless live electronics from Okzharp. The performance will be built around free-flowing, reworked versions of their released songs as well as new, unreleased work.

Okzharp and Ribane head an unmissable line-up that also includes Sound Of Xee and Codekidlife, Lady Venom and JakobSnake b2b SIRCULA. The closing Black Major Presents event of 2017 takes place at 219 Long Street, Cape Town with tickets available now from Quicket.

Originally from Cape Town, Okzharp is a musician, producer and DJ, based in South London. As one-third of LV, Okzharp has released two full-length albums – ‘Routes’ (Keysound, a second collaboration with writer and vocalist Joshua Idehen following 2010’s ’38 EP’) and 2012’s ‘Sebenza’ (Hyperdub). “Sebenza” was released as a single, featuring a remix by DJ Clock and Okzharp has been part of other remixes and musical collaborations with the likes of Zaki Ibrahim, Zomby, Untold, Yungun, Pinch, Micachu, and Mumdance (with releases on labels Hyperdub, Keysound, Souljazz, 2nd Drop and Hemlock).

Manthe Ribane is a performance wunderkind who has been making a name for herself across the creative spectrum, working in film, music, dance and performance art. As a creative catalyst, Ribane has been a key member in some of South Africa’s contemporary movements, from the fashiona/art squadron, The Smarteez back in 2006, to the dance/performance-art group V.I.N.T.A.G.E which won Best Dance

Crew at the South African HipHop Awards 2014. Ribane was recently awarded a ‘Young Inspiration’ award for her work by Red Bull South Africa. She works in a highly engaged way, with youth and female empowerment.

Okzharp and Manthe originally came together to work on the film Ghost Diamond but this quickly blossomed into a deeper creative collaboration. Black Major is extremely excited to debut the first Cape Town show for Okzharp and Manthe Ribane. This is an inclusive event where absolutely no Racism, Homophobia, Transphobia, Ableism, Sexism or any other discrimination will be tolerated.
