So by now we know the all-star cast of voices that are attached to Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” – Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala and James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa (which is genius by the way).
But probably the smartest move by Disney and Favreau was to rope Hans Zimmer into returning to score the film as well as Elton John who is returning to rework some of his original compositions.
If you’ve seen the original (if you haven’t stop reading this RIGHT NOW and go redeem yourself) you’ll immediately realise that there’s nothing earth-shatteringly different about the beginning scene that this teaser trailer sets up.
But here’s the thing about this particular remake – to me, “The Lion King” is sacred.
I remember my mother taking me to watch it in the cinema, feeling that ultimate knife-in-the-back betrayal when Scar killed Mufasa and not being entirely sure why I wasn’t able to stop crying throughout the whole thing. This Disney movie is one of the fundamental cornerstones of my childhood and for a long time I thought something so fresh shouldn’t be touched.
But this trailer got me all riled up, in the best way.
Don’t fuck this up Favreau.
