Desmond and the Tutus’ latest video for single “Freak Them Out”, in the same vein as Van Pletzen’s “Goud”, makes clever use of an Uber ride I’m assuming couldn’t have cost them more than R150.
“What we have here is a good old fashioned summer love song,” Shane Durrant explained to me. “Do you know that feeling of being in love and acting ridiculous and getting weird looks from strangers and not caring, this is a song about moments like that.”
“In other news, we’re independent again,” Durrant told me enthusiastically. “First we tried to do it ourselves but it didn’t feel like we knew what we were doing so then we tried a major label and that didn’t quite work out, then we tried an indie label which also wasn’t a great fit, so we’re back to square one. So let’s see how it goes this time around.”
Well guys, so far so good. This video is the stuff D.I.Y. dreams are made of.
Ten bonus points for one of the most unaffected Uber drivers around. Watch the video below.
