Alice Phoebe Lou is potent and softly impassioned in her live video for “Drive By”

Fiery Kommetjie-raised, Berlin-honed Alice Phoebe Lou has always been a force to be reckoned with. The barefoot busker turned highly respected, burgeoning independent star within the alternative scene.

In the wake of the release of her long-anticipated new album Paper Castles – which is a strikingly dynamic, nostalgic ode to growing into a woman – she has embarked on a tour across the USA and Europe – and now this little gem has surfaced.

“Drive By” was originally released on her solo EP Sola which she dropped early last year as a fund-raising effort for the album.

Unhurried and bittersweet, stripped right down to piano and vocals, the live video was shot by OFFSHORE in Berlin. Lou perches at a grand piano, blond hair rippling down her back. Her delivery is powerful in its subtlety.

The song itself is chiming, keening offering. Lilting, exploratory vocals navigate visceral lyricism: “Oh the loss of you/will haunt me through and through.”

She is unflinchingly authentic in the portrayal of her worldly message.
