New Hero’s “My Final Song” is a powerful and haunting release that tackles mental health suffering

Cape Town duo New Hero have once again teamed up with music producer and director Chad Lawrence, this time to deliver an in depth emotional look at the suffering of depression, anxiety and addiction.

“My Final Song” was written from the perspective of the sufferer and is aimed to give non sufferers some insight into the head of someone dealing with these complex issues.

“We live in a world where mental health and suicide issues are so common yet still so misunderstood. People are even scared to talk to those closest to them for fear of being branded unstable or a risk,” the duo explain.

“As sufferers of depression and anxiety ourselves we decided to write a song from the perspective of the person dealing with these complex issues. We need to point out this isn’t a jump on the band wagon attempt but rather our way of trying to spread awareness the only way we know how,” they continue.

“If this song and video can even for a second help a non sufferer put themselves in the shoes of someone dealing with mental health issues, then we will have achieved what we set out to do,” they conclude.

In today’s fast-paced society we can become so wrapped up in our own self interests that we underestimate the significance of a simple “I’m thinking about you” text or phone call.

Reaching out could make the world of difference to someone and conversely, if you’re suffering or feel like you’re totally alone, don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help.

Nobody deserves to suffer alone.
