Take a trip to GTown with a dose of feel-good folk in Frances Clare’s “When It Rains” video

Nothing like a winter road trip up to the Eastern Cape.

A year ago Frances Clare hopped aboard a sponsored car and sped from Cape Town to Grahamstown in a day – proceeding to play 11 shows in a week.

This little throwback to their first time on the road together comes at an apt time as they are gearing up to head off on a UK and European tour in a couple of weeks.

The video is a blue-toned montage of road-side shenanigans, cloud-scapes, nighttime drives through the country, and performance snippets from across the South Africa. They’ve played stages from The National Arts Festival, to Greenpop Reforest Fest (I’d recognise that bunting anywhere) and the video gives a delightful little insight into the band off stage.

The song is a charmingly simple alternative folk offering – bordering on the edge of influences such as The Cranberries and Alanis Morissette.

And I’ll say this every time I come across this band: front-woman Frances Litten has got a voice on her you’ll want to hear again and again.

A feel-good ode to living a life where the sky in constantly the limit, “When It Rains” takes a sweet sing-a-long and reminds us that we can be anything.

Thanks for that.
