Drifter Brewing Company to launch wine-beer hybrid during upcoming yacht party

We love our Drifter Brewing fam, so when we see them launching new products and reaching new heights it makes us super happy.

Their latest limited-edition beverage, Sunrise on the Vine, launches this Saturday, August 24, with a party on the Mirage yacht, a luxury catamaran based in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront.

After setting sail from the harbour, attendees will enjoy exclusive first sips of the new product along with a three-course cheese pairing by Stanford’s Klein River Cheese Farmstead, as well as access to the Mirage’s fully stocked bar.

“South Africa is traditionally a wine-focused country, so we wanted to expand peoples’ perception of what a beer can look and taste like,” says Drifter founder and director Nicholas Bush. “We worked hard to marry the strong ale with the characteristics of the Sémillon grapes to create a product that would really showcase the best of both worlds.”

Sunrise on the Vine joins the ranks of Drifter’s long line of small-batch and collaboration beers, including this autumn’s Cuppa coffee-infused ale made in collaboration with Origin Coffee. The name, Sunrise On The Vine, comes from this product being a wine-beer hybrid, a strong ale fermented with Sémillon grapes from the Franschhoek Valley and aged in 2007 red wine barrels.

Only 1900 bottles of Sunrise On The Vine have been produced, and attendees at Drifter’s yacht launch event will have the first opportunity to taste the beer and purchase bottles to take home.

Tickets are R190 and include: entrance aboard the Mirage, a welcome drink of Sunrise On The Vine and a bottle to take home, and 3 cheese pairings from Klein River Cheese.
