H.E.R. reflects on her coming-of-age and musical journey in new video for “21”

At the tender age of 21, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter H.E.R. has achieved what some artists double her age wish they had.

After bagging two Grammys, including one for Best R&B Album at the beginning of this year, the songstress went on to net a BET Award, a NAACP Image Award and had her album I Used To Know Her debut at #1 on the Billboard R&B album chart.

You need a minute to take that all in don’t you? It’s fine take your time. That’s exactly what H.E.R. has done with her new video, looking back at key moments of her career and juxtaposing it with footage from her actual 21st birthday party.

“I wrote this song when I turned 21. It was one of the best years of my life! I’m experiencing all the things I prayed for as a kid and more. The scary part is, it’s just the beginning,” she confesses and it’s the honestly the most inspiring comments I’ve heard in ages.

Blending neo-soul melodies with the smoothest rap lines that detail her experience thus far, H.E.R. is a powerhouse coming into her own and a perfect artist to spotlight this Women’s Month.
