From August 22 to 25 at 1 Fox in Newtown Johannesburg, House of Vans will revolutionise the building, turning it into a cultural hub celebrating art, music, action sports and street culture.
With an array of curated programming free to the public, this unique pop-up experience will be South Africa’s biggest House of Vans experience to date.
“Johannesburg is known for its cultural diversity and has strong roots in art, music and skateboarding,” says Warren Talbot, Vans Marketing Manager, South Africa. “House of Vans is the physical manifestation of the Vans brand and this is a great opportunity for our consumers to immerse themselves into our brand pillars.”
The House of Vans Johannesburg pop-up will kick-off Thursday, August 22 with a line-up of acts, some which include Gemini Major, Ray Barbee, PATRICKxxLEE and Gina Jeanz.
Throughout the weekend, House of Vans will showcase several local musical talents from across the country including the likes of Desmond and The Tutus, Bye Beneco, Marena Leraba, Riky Rick, DJ Speedsta, Stilo Magolide, Batuk and DBN Gogo. Two international acts are set to headline the mainstage on both Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24.
House of Vans wouldn’t be whole without skateboarding, so Vans have partnered with local heroes Baseline and Skate Society Soweto, alongside UK-based company Yardsale to help curate a unique indoor skatepark. The open skate sessions will be available at scheduled times for the duration of the weekend along with Vans’ signature girls skate clinics and board building. The skate sessions will culminate in a “cash for tricks” contest on Saturday afternoon.
House of Vans Johannesburg will offer an extensive array of art programming including installations and workshops by some of South Africa’s finest. Furthermore, an exhibition will be dedicated to the history that highlights the skateboarding heritage and evolution of Session Magazine over the years.
Those attending House of Vans Johannesburg will also see some of the country’s most creative talents with a curated Community Market hosting the likes of DEAD. Clothing, Baseline, Khaya Records, Sk8 Shades, Sealand and Roastin Records, where they will showcase and retail their artistic ingenuity, and connect with event guests. Attendees can also expect flash tattooing from Palm Black and a barbershop pop-up from Legends Barbers among the many experiences available at the event.
