shesaid.so launches signature mini-mentorship scheme supported by YouTube Music

shesaid.so and YouTube Music today announce their partnership at shesaid.so’s global gathering MEETSSS, set to take place in Portimão, Algarve, Portugal between October 3-6.

As part of this partnership, shesaid.so will introduce a mini-mentorship programme – “she.grows at MEETSSS” – targeted at five Mentor/Mentee pairs who will participate in a series of mentoring activities throughout the event.

To celebrate five years since launch, shesaid.so, the global network for women in the music industry, announced its inaugural female-first, music-forward conference MEETSSS. Guest speakers include Georgia Taglietti (Sonar Festival), Maria May (CAA), Vanessa Bakewell (Facebook/Instagram), Shakira Payne (Sonos), Ben Turner (Graphite/International Music Summit) and more, as well as music showcases featuring artists such as Deena Abdelwahed, Mafalda and Surma.

In 2017 shesaid.so launched she.grows, a peer-to-peer mentoring programme for women in the UK music industry. The scheme has helped a total of 142 women to date and is set to expand in other European territories. “she.grows at MEETSSS” is inspired by the UK scheme and will feature a mentorship panel as part of the official conference schedule, as well as a series of private and semi-private activities for the selected Mentor/Mentee pairs.

shesaid.so founder, Andreea Magdalina, shares her thoughts on the partnership: “Thanks to input from the shesaid.so community over the years, we identified mentorship as a key tool in the furtherment of our mission and values. The two she.grows iterations we ran thus far are firm indicators that engaging in a mentoring relationship helps boost the careers of both mentors and mentees alike. We are honoured to join efforts with YouTube Music for the first time this year to bring she.grows to our global gathering, MEETSSS, and help us expand the scheme beyond its UK beginnings.”

The five Mentors are designated from the MEETSSS speaker and delegate list, while Mentees will be selected via an open call targeted at women, trans and non-binary people. Two of the Mentee slots are reserved for residents of Portugal, while the remaining will be offered to potential attendees based in Europe. Each Mentee will receive a delegate pass, accommodation for 3 nights, and travel (please note, applicants don’t have to be EU residents however we are only able to cover European flights).

“There’s so much inspiring female talent in the industry right now – and they are looking for ways to grow. Mentorship is a critical piece of the puzzle when it comes to growing your career,” highlights Azi Eftekhari, Head of Label Relations EMEA, YouTube. “YouTube Music is proud to partner with shesaid.so to help foster connections that will ultimately help boost the careers of the next generation.”

Mentee open call applications close on September 1st, 2019 and the Mentor/Mentee pairs will be announced on September 9, 2019.
