Starting a business with capital and not having professional work experience was a challenge for Sibusiso Dlamini and Ndumiso Ramate, the creators of Soweto Ink, one of the very few black-owned tattoo parlours.
Soweto Ink is based in the heart of one of the most iconic townships in the country, and Dlamini and Ramate are set on building an empire from a culture that’s still considered taboo in some black communities.
The team has been in the business of body art for more than a decade breaking the stigma attached to tattoos but also creating awareness of hygienic tattoos. Because of this the crew has built a clientele that includes the likes of Burna Boy, Khutso Theledi, Dj Sabby, Priddy Ugly and Gigi Lamayne, to name just a few.
The Soweto Ink Tattoo Convention was born to create an environment to showcase the crew’s skills, but to also create a community spirit, so whether you want to get inked, already have tattoos or just want to come hang out, Ccnvention weekend should be high of your priority list.
We can’t wait to check out the best tattooists Joburg has to offer, as well as the international guests that will be coming down for the convention.
