Bye Beneco’s new single and video for “Baby I’m Gold” is a dreamy collaboration between the three-piece band and Durban-based electronic music producer MISSU.
“Baby I’m Gold” is a retro-inspired bop that seamlessly combines MISSU’s distinctive production style with singer Lenny Dee’s alluring vocals and breathy talking, to create a song with all the drama of Madonna’s Vogue. This vibrant offering is a collaboration made in musical heaven which features layers of whimsical synth juxtaposed with a video-game-esque chiptune, to create a song with a wonderfully upbeat edge that’s undoubtedly going to end up stuck in your head.
The accompanying music video is a gorgeously atmospheric offering that takes you on a stylised journey into the time warp. Directed and shot by Hankyeol Lee, the video may be their most glamourous to date, oozing ’80’ charm and replete with all the drama, glitter and gaudy outfits to match.
Drenched in dreamy filters and full of longing gazes that would put any telenovela star to shame, “Baby I’m Gold” is an ’80s-inspired fever dream that’s going to make you fall in love with the band all over again.
