Elton John & Bernie Taupin win Oscar for Best Original Song and it’s crazy how after decades of hits, it’s the first award they’ve won together

Few musicians had a better 2019 than Elton John.

His official autobiography was published, Rocketman. The film based on his life grossed $195.2 million worldwide and his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour continued to sell out stadiums worldwide.

It seems his lucky streak has continued into 2020, picking up his second Oscar last night, alongside his longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin, for “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again”, the theme song from Rocketman.

It’s crazy to think that after all the years they’ve worked together and all the iconic tracks they’ve written, this is the first time they’ve ever won an award together.

“This is for him. This is for my partner of 53 years,” John told reporters backstage. “Without the lyrics, I’m nobody. This is the man who started the journey. I have one of these [Oscars] already, but I so wanted to get one for everyone involved with the film.”

What a mensch. We heart you Elton.
