Black Bone Nation get flashy with the video for hard rock ode “Born to Rock”

Hard rock outfit Black Bone Nation’s “Born to Rock” and its accompanying single prove that the genre isn’t dead, it’s just a little bit of a walking cliché.

While both the song and the track stand well as pieces of art when looked at outside of a bigger context, the trouble is that they’re not bringing anything new to the scene. Crunching barre chords, high octane riffs, and heavy drums have provided the backdrop for many an ode to rock ‘n’ roll – AC/DC released an album full of them in 2014 – and “Born to Rock” only reinforces the idea that the hard-rock world is looping back on a classic recipe perhaps overdone.

Music videos can be limiting for up-and-coming-bands at the best of times but strobe-light silhouetting smells like a bit of a cop-out. I won’t lie, it looks impressive. We rockers are suckers for bright-and-flashy but a whole lot of this video feels a lot like something we’ve seen and done before.

All that being said I will admit to being overly academic about all this. If you’re looking for a good time and flashing lights and crunching barre chords are your thing (and let’s be real, they’re everybody’s thing) then look no further than “Born to Rock”.
