Distruction Boyz just founded Distruction Records and dropped a heavy gqom jol of a music video for “Ubumnandi” to celebrate

Since signing their partnership with Sony Music Entertainment Africa, gqom veterans Distruction Boyz have wasted no time in leaping onto new projects. They’ve just announced the founding of their very own record label, Distruction Records and a brand new debut video, “Ubumnandi” just dropped – featuring a wealth of collabs including Nokwazi, DJ Tira, Dladla Mshunqisi, and Fearless Boyz.

“We are really excited about dropping our individual projects and all of our projects are very dear to our hearts,” the duo collectively enthused. “We will drop music that consists of sounds we used to bump to, especially in taxis and house parties. These are the authentic sounds of the township and where we come from, and we really can’t wait.”

Distruction Records is home to not only themselves, but also to freshly signed producers BlaQRythm, Dreda, and Kdot. Individual projects from each of the artists are due to be dropping over the next few months – with a highly anticipated single from BlaQRythm to be released on all platforms on June 5th.

“Ubumnandi”, which originally hit the airwaves on Distruction Boyz’s 2019 album Africa To The World, pairs a hard-hitting gqom beat with whining synths and knife-sharp vocals. The video chronicles a classic jol – not. There are girls washing cars, a couple of guys cut shapes in front of a bonfire of grass clippings, the rest of the crew drink and dance on a heaving balcony, before resorting to a dusty sundowner dance-off in the parking lot.

It’s rousing and anthemic – a worthy intro to a label looking to take classic township sound to the international airwaves.
