Dope Folks & Duke Duke embark on a trippy rescue mission in their debut video “Perfect Hits”

Small-town 4-piece steezy surf-rock bunch, Dope Folks have been gaining traction on the local music scene since 2019 after the release of their debut EP, Wasting Time, filling gigs and sharing stages with SA’s top-tier acts like Desmond & The Tutus, and Diamond Thug.

Now, their debut music video, “Perfect Hits” has just leapt onto the scene and it encapsulates Dope Folks’ ‘vaab’ perfectly.

In the first installment of the three-part sonic series we find our fictional furry folks hitting the road Cape Town-bound when things take a turn for the trippy and they are suddenly faced with what looks like a vengeful ’80s boombox radio invasion from outer space.

Illustrated and animated by local graphic novelist and long-time buddy, Stefan Schmidt of On The Fly Designs, these four unlikely shoe-wearing animal heroes allegedly represent band members’ Marius van Coller (rhythm guitar and lead vocalist), Sebastian Dorrington (lead guitar, piano and vocals), Don Schriefer (bass, lead guitar and vocals), and Alexander Burger (drums) spirit animals.

It’s an imaginative indie video with subliminal reference to the sacrifices artists often have to make in pursuit of fame. Bubbling with all the right buzzwords – escapades, mystery and explosions, we’re left with a scene of an overturned minivan and several burning questions. So sit tight – the riddle might just be unravelled in the next episode of the animated trials and tribulations of the fearsome furry foursome.
