Award-winning house artist Holly Rey drops her debut self-directed video for “Wanna Be” and it’s a boujee banger

The first time Holly Rey (real name, Holly Wasserfall)  popped onto my radar was when the pioneering musician became the first female in 20 years (since the Queen of Afropop, Brenda Fassie) to bag the highly-coveted SAMA Record of the Year at the 2019 SAMAs for her smash hit single “Deeper”.

Just months before that, the Durban-born recording artist graduated cum laude in Media and Communications at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Now, one year later, Holly is dominating our air and earwaves once again in her bedazzled faux fur – with a couple of kick-ass back-up boogie babes – in her latest solo-directed music video for a new bodacious single “Wanna Be”.

Produced, directed and styled by Holly Rey together with her regular co-creators, Jimmy Reynolds and The Edit Room, Holly’s energy is so contagious you almost feel like part of her crew – jamming around a petrol station in a trolly before hitting the jol.

She has punched out yet another attention grabber and dance-floor filler of a video that has all the trimmings to come out on top once again.
