I recently got out of a 14 day governmental quarantine after returning to South Africa off the back of some very locked down countries. By day five of being confined I started a pre-dinner dance ritual with a pair of headphones and a damn good playlist. I’m adding this track straight to that playlist.
Written during lockdown with the very intention of adding a little spice to our quarantined lives, Daaf Vapor concocted a banger of an Afrikaanse treffer, aptly titled “Dancedag” and you’d better take the time to rock out to this today.
Life is not kak, there’s always time to dance. That’s the gist behind the inspiration for this release. Fat bass meets tri-layered nasal synth and the catchiest of Afrikaans phrase-work since The Kiffness’s “Pragtig Meisie”.
The video is a side-splitting compilation of dance number across the globe. We’ve got an African dude in the dress breaking it down in a dusty village, we’ve got a nutty professor-esque guy in his broekies cutting shapes everywhere from a supermarket to a horse and carriage. There’s even a guy who artfully stamps everything from minions to Yoda on his stomach for a wiggle.
I’ll leave you with this reminder – if it’s not already stuck in your head for all eternity – “Dans in die sitkamer/ dans in die kombuis/ dans in elke fokken kamer in jou huis.”
