Kilo Kami soundtracks the new normal with his latest lockdown single and video “Dreams”

Kilo Kami makes a comeback with new single “Dreams, the follow-up to his 2019 debut project Trnce. In addition to the old-school lyric video, the single also features two of the hottest up-and-coming SA rap artists right now, Kashcpt and Flowjones Jr., who, together with Kilo, bring a contemporary hip hop throw down.

The track was written and produced earlier this year, when South Africa went into lockdown, and while you might imagine that a collab under isolation is a seemingly difficult venture, it really couldn’t have been any easier for Kilo – as easy as sending a basic beat through to Kashcpt and Flowjones respectively, and getting their vocals back in an hour.

The relatability of Kashcpt and Flow’s lyrical perspectives paired with Kami’s current genre production – and more than catchy chorus – makes for a really exciting release, swaying in the region of Post-Malone R&B and grunge hip-hop.

The visual feels just as alive too, which is not often the case with animated lyric videos. Given the current online world, Kami couldn’t really have made the video any other way, but the result here is cleverly artful. Calling all fans of the 90’s, there are enough VHS graphics and grainy box TVs here for everyone.
