When our editor sat down with Ryan Murgatroyd for our first season of Texx Talks earlier this year, the DJ and label owner broke down just how he had paid his hard-earned way to the top of South African club music scene.
In just 12 months Swoon Recordings has scooped an impressive catalogue of local and international artists, dropped 7 releases, and have a whole lot more on the cards as they pave their way to becoming one of the leading players in electronic music.
To celebrate their 1-year anniversary, Murgatroyd teamed up with songbird Sobantwana for a fleeting 2-track EP Woona – featuring both an original recording as well as a thumping remix courtosy of Zaloz.
Lo-fi synths lap at the shore of the opening original track. It’s rousing and anthemic, clocking in at just over 5 minutes with a subtle, progressive beat underpinning Sobantwana’s cruising vocals. Zaloz kicks things up a notch with his version – taking things deeper and darker by the second. This rendition is bred for the late night dancefloor. Kicking up dust with a fibrillating beat beneath organic percussion which lends that African flair we love.
Murgatroyd’s always known how to deliver, and his friends are right up there with him at this point.
