Khuli Chana’s third collaboration with industry powerhouse Cassper Nyovest is the pair’s strongest yet. Their highly anticipated single “Basadi”, taken off Chana’s latest full-length offering Planet of the Have Nots, just got a video to match, and it’s a motswako party.
Named the ‘motswakoriginator’, Khuli Chana continues to pioneer a now trademark SA house-genre, exploring a rich and visceral sound through layers of vocal chains, heavy production and a crazy groovy rhythm. If you aren’t getting down to this in the kitchen, the living room, and even the bathroom, you obviously haven’t listened to it enough.
What’s more is that the “Basadi” drop not only sees these two Maftown giants pay tribute to the women of SA with their Jabba riddled lyrics, but conveys an intense musical chemistry that really speaks to the power of collaboration.
The video could do with a touch more creative direction, falling at the heels of what every hip hop video seems to look like these days – buffed up Jeeps, flashy bling and jungle mansions, Khuli and Cassper at the forefront of all this.
Nevertheless Khuli Chana remains one of the best in the game, who alongside Nyovest, continues to set the tone of motswako music today, bringing a fresh approach to every release.
