Corné Pretorius made a startling debut earlier this year with single “Vuur en Vlam”, which our Texx herself even named #TexxTrack of the week on her weekly music round up for Mix93.8FM, and new single “Halfvol” seems destined for similar glory.
Written in studio with none other than Francois van Coke and Richard Onraet, the track carries an upbeat tune that’s perfect for dusting off the lilos and the plastic plakkies and heading to the beach, as Pretorius puts it. Match this summery spirit with van Coke’s vocal and lyrical influence, as well as Onraet’s knack for composition and you’ve got yourself some serious musical synergy.
The single comes with a music video too, directed by Johan Nel (known for his regular video collaborations with Fokofpolisiekar), which does well to translate the track’s tone – ocean vistas in vivid blue, sunset hues, friends on the beach, and an all-round zest for the lives we so badly want to resume. But maybe it’s a visual a little too synonymous with that ‘summer vibe’, especially when it comes to music videos, such that the imagery feels more like it’s been pulled out of a video stock library than scenically imagined. Still if summer’s what you’re after, Corné Pretorius delivers it in his own relatable, effortlessly charming way.
