Cape Town-based singer-songwriter Gemma Fassie embraces her raw emotions and artistry to the fullest extent in her debut contemporary R&B project, AFTER HOURS.
The soul-fuelled EP is the 21-year-old’s first three-track project where all songs were written entirely by herself in – and which she showcases her influences from great artists and musicians like Jhené Aiko, H.E.R, UMI, Lauryn Hill and Snoh Aalegra.
The tracklist is locked and loaded with three melodic-soaked singles: “Phases”, “K.I.G” and “You”, all mixed and mastered by C4_see_four who makes a very gentle sonic cameo in introductory track, “K.I.G”.
The EP finds its feet in floaty, meditative exploration, most evident in “You” – a track steeped in dreamy relatability, perfect for the end-of-day wind-down.
It confirms that the brief hiatus Fassie took to complete her studies has resulted in her honing in on her craft since dropping singles “Best Life” and “All I Need” and she’s got good things coming.
