In Bloom channel mature complexities in their home-spliced video for “The One”

To put it simply, In Bloom’s live performance video for “The One” succeeds where so many other live videos falter.

From the lyrics through to the composition the track, taken from the band’s upcoming EP, is packed with unexpected maturity. Drummer and lead-singer Francis Broek makes it look easy as he guides the band through a journey of pragmatic self-love with the deftest of touches, the rest of the group following suit with ease and elegance.

The complex feelings the music evokes are matched by the video. It’s not often a live video perfectly tallies up to its song but “The One”, shot in Bakai’s basement – aka The Dungeon – gets it right. The home-movie feel of the production brings a sense of nostalgia while the close quarters of the basement add to the honesty and vulnerability of the song. The sunset shots scattered throughout gives the whole thing a charming indie-movie gloss.

Live videos can be quite restricting but In Bloom just created its own magic, without having to stray too far from the beaten path.
