Trap soul aspirant Tino’s debut EP LUCIDFRVR is meaty millennial identity crisis material

Cape Town-based, self-taught singer songwriter who produces under the alias Tino (real name Tinotenda Mungadzi) dropped his first musical project earlier this month in the form of a five-track EP titled LUCIDFRVR.

The student’s chemistry with melody stems from inspiration-come-case studies, Bryson Tiller, Tinashe, Che Ecru and Jhene Aiko. Last year, Tino finally stepped out from the shadows with his material starting with “ILY (feat. B1uan)” which slowly started catching fire garnering praise from DJ Sabby.

Written, produced, mixed, and mastered by Tino himself, LUCIDFRVR is an impressive collection of work, paying homage to the sinister atmosphere characteristic of melodic trap while bordering on alternative hip hop – a melange the artist is calling Lucid R&B.

Amani’s interlude is a favourite, reminiscent of ethereal elements of Kevin Abstract’s studio album, American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story, while speaking to the bone-crushing feeling of losing a relationship in all senses of the word loss.

LUCIDFRVR is Tino’s carefully put together curriculum vitae and a well paved entrance to his career.
