Every December the STFD collective host a Christmas jol at one of their friend’s homes in Noordhoek that they affectionately called “Thank Folk it’s the Holidays” and over the years they toyed with the idea of one day recording their own Christmas album.
Fast forward to when lockdown restrictions began easing around September and they decided, if they don’t do it now, it’s just never going to happen, and that’s how Thank Folk It’s The Holidays was born.
The compilation is an amalgamation of genres – from a cappella to folk, blues rock, country, punk and even Nomadic Orchestra adding their unique brass dance feel to a track.
Not only did each musician bring their own feel to their song, but this compilation is heavy with the sense of community, with many musos jumping on each other’s tracks to add additional instruments and whatever else producer Jon Shaban felt it needed.
The team has also been hard at work prepping for the launch of their music and merch store on Saturday the 5th of December at their HQ in Woodstock.
They’ll have an amazing selection of local and international vinyl on offer, local band merch (CDs, t-shirts, caps) and while cash is king, bring your card along too because they’ve got Yoco, Snapscan and Zapper facilities all hooked up.
Plus, after the long ass year its been, there’s never been a better time to support your scene and buy local band merch for the festive season. You know what to do.
