Meet Internet Girl: a garage-rock trio whose latest single “Staying In Bed Too Late” is a burst of indie-punk energy

Internet Girl have been flooding us with single after single this year – and in spite of all the difficulties 2020 has presented, practically releasing new music every month. It’s always good to see a new band as enthusiastic as these guys, and with the way music is consumed nowadays, maybe single after single is this garage-rock trio’s key to success.

With a recent signing to R&R/Warner Records, Internet Girl are on track to rapidly dominate SA’s indie space. Their previous two singles “Next Summer” and “Follow Me Around” have also garnered a ton of local support as well as slots on multiple Spotify playlists, including Lorem, New Music Friday SA and Radar SA.

Their music touches on indie, electronic and hip hop, all through a gently distorted vocal that is uniquely their own, filled with energetic bursts of melody and relatable lyrics. These guys really are full of energy, and true to form, their latest single “Staying In Bed Too Late” (feat. Jimi Somewhere) doesn’t miss the mark either.

Expressing one’s mental state before ending a relationship, the track’s hard-hitting drums and infectious lead gives you that feeling that everything is going to be okay. And while it may tread a little too close to emo-pop for a modern liking, Internet Girl definitely know their own sound, and harness its powers in all the right ways.
