Mpumalanga-hailing Afrobeats artist Aygee Montero (real name Ayanda Mkhwanazi) brought a rocky year to a smooth close with the official release of his debut music video “Nothing to Prove”.
The burgeoning hit-maker burst through the South African hip hop scene with an independently produced four-track EP, Vibes Don’t Lie released in June last year and now he’s putting visuals to his slick sound.
Directed by Dj Abza and Hasssan and produced by Potoko Visuals, the “Nothing to Prove” visual premiered on Channel O in December last year.
The video, filmed at a B’n’B called Monica’s Cottage in Kensington, features a host of special guests including Linda Gwala, Mncedidi Dube, Syabonga Shongwe, Kamohelo Sage Sehau, Queen Mashiane, and Aphiwe Ntuli. The whole scheme is simple – cleverly playing into Montero’s “Nothing to prove” narrative – made effective with dynamic camera work, good lighting, saturation and of course, la pièce de résistance, the badass blue ride.
With an impressive debut in 2020, Montero’s musical future is here, primed to take off as the new year rolls around.
