KZN-hailing DJ and producer Asvnte is cooking some tight tunes and just lately, we got a taste of the artist’s cinematic abilities in his recent release, “Famous”, served with a healthy side of sauce.
Asvnte started making music from the age of ten as an escape, and over a decade on, the sonic creator is mixing his way up the alternative R&B ranks hard and fast.
Co-produced with Tumi Matha and filmed and edited by regular collaborator, Jay B Gumede, the visual for “Famous” is yet another example of a Covid-compromise when UK-based artist, JXY couldn’t make it down south as originally planned.
Instead, cosy old-school VHS footage from Durban, Jamaica and the UK have been stitched together into a dynamic video that piques interest and hits Asvnte’s concept on the head. “I wanted to give the audience a full experience of the summertime with a tropical breeze that forces you to be in a good mood and go outside for a day party with friends or a loved one,” he explains.
Watch Loki carry smooth verses in some swaggy drip, surrounded by a cool gang played by models Sidney Fernandez, Demi Donjeany and Thembeka Cazzabella – while Asvnte busts a move or two. It’s the result of homeland inspiration, and Asvnte keeps it local as he flexes international.
