Red Robyn delivers a tender montage alongside The World Of Birds in their video for “Stargirl”

Red Robyn and The World Of Birds – you might think it was a collaboration written in the stars with those names. Perhaps it was. She may have officially left the band’s ranks last year, but they’re still a tour de force when put together.

Single “Stargirl” is a divine synthesis of musical talent between the two, recently given visual life with an accompanying music video. Lifted from debut EP Before The Sun Comes Up when Robyn was an official band member, “Stargirl” is a toned-down, dream-pop anthem.

The video is directed by Katya Abedian- Rawháni, her detailed yet delicate touch perfectly suits the sentimental song.

The visual narrative follows Robyn’s dream to become an Olympic Figure skater, crushed by medical complications, leading her to heal through songwriting. The song’s melancholic tint is balanced by hopefulness and positivity which sonically radiates in the uplifting chorus.

A nostalgic montage, the video integrates intimate spaces and moments of Robyn’s story with a dreamy, film-like haze. There is a wholesome tenderness to it – moments of joy between her mother and sister, Robyn with eyes closed, swirling arms, dancing. It’s a reminder to self-love, to support, and appreciate others but beyond that, it’s an ode to the women who shape us.

When life throws you in the deep end, “Stargirl” reminds you to look in the mirror and praise yourself – “girl, you’re a STAR”.
