Independent songwriter ISLA makes her debut with an emotive single and video, “Break The Fall”

Meet Isla Sutherland (aka ISLA): an independent songwriter hailing from the Mother City who has just made her debut with a bittersweet single and video “Break The Fall”.

It speaks to the difficulties of having a long distance relationship with someone, exploring the doubts and insecurities that physical separation brings, imagined through powerful vocals and acoustic influences from the likes of Lorde and Kelly Clarkson.

The video, directed by Natalie Frohmann, captures the ISLA struggling to accept that a screen has now replaced her love, switching back and forth between a galactic, dreamlike backdrop to a dimly lit bedroom.

Up till now ISLA has only ever shared covers with us on YouTube, but they haven’t quite taken her anywhere, hence her decision to start making music she could call her own. In fact, she’s set to release even more original content throughout the year, and while both the sound and visuals of this track may seem a little novice, it’s a promising start for the 20-year old.
