Katlego Matseke – aka KaySoul – just inked a deal with Italian label Apparel Music and he’s got a fresh EP hitting the airwaves right off the bat. The World’s Gone Crazy clocks in at just shy of 20 minutes – each of the three featured tracks being sprawling and extended.
Always a sucker for a collab, he’s teamed up with both singer-songwriter Disney Bailey (“The World’s Gone Crazy”) and hotshot producer Rephlex (“4 Tops Drive 932 Groove Mix”) to throw in something fresh and the result is a driving EP bred for the warm up dance floor.
Opener “The World’s Gone Crazy” ropes in Bailey’s crooning vocalism over a hollow percussive baseline. It’s soothingly delivered, replete in whirring texture and effortless vibrance. “4 Tops Drive”, the original, is a slow burning groove with a muted beat and tinny percussive driving it forth – while Rephlex’s remix lends the track entirely new legs, opting instead for a late night industrial rethink. All watery, warping synth and heady bass.
KaySoul keeps things simple as always, while simultaneously packing the sort of punch you will remember.
