Zoë Modiga’s poignant song “Abantu” playlisted in Netflix series Savage Beauty score

Award-winning singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, Pan African activist, and fashion-forward creative Zoë Modiga is licensed to evoke intense emotions as “Abantu”, taken from her SAMA Awarded album, INGANEKWANE, is featured in the score for Netflix Series, Savage Beauty where she also makes a cameo performance.

“Abantu” is a poignantly written and vocally enchanting song that speaks to the waning spirit of Ubuntu that has created a divide in the modern African people’s experience; furthermore, it is a call to perseverance and effective societal change, a reminder that the African mind is more than the product of its trauma.

Tying in with the underlying theme of Savage Beauty being the unearthing of unresolved trauma coupled with the blurred line between justice and revenge, the placement of “Abantu” in the series serves as a thematic appeal for healing, and attaining closure as opposed to sustaining the adverse status quo of turbulence, ill will and unrest within the community.

Savage Beauty boasts the cast of Rosemary Zimu, Dumisani Mbebe, Nthati Moshesh, Angela Sithole, Jesse Suntele, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi, Oros Mampofu, Mpho Sebeng, John Ncamane and Slindile Nodangala.
