Metallica blessed the audience at Pinkpop Festival this last weekend by playing “Metal Militia”, a track they haven’t played since 2016.
The band played a 13-song set and came back for a 3-song encore, of which “Metal Militia” was the first. The much-loved track is taken from the metal god’s 1983 classic album Kill ‘Em All, and according to Setlist.fm, the band has only played it live a total of 91 times throughout their entire career. A huge feat if you consider Metallica’s intense tour schedule when they’re on the road.

In other Metallica news, the band’s guitarist Kirk Hammet told Classic Rock in an interview that the band warned people that streaming services “wouldn’t work” as a new form of business. “We warned everyone that the music industry was gonna lose 80 per cent of its net worth, power and influence.”
“There’s definitely a new way for getting music out there, but it isn’t as effective as the music industry pre-Napster,” Hammett continued. “But we’re stuck with it. There needs to be some sort of midway point where the two come together, or another completely new model comes in.”
