We’re back people! August had some CRAZY tunes to offer, and while we couldn’t include them all, our writers dedicated themselves to picking the best and most varied releases they could.
Moonga K. delivers yet again with stunning neo-soul, “right these wrongs” taken from his latest EP IV. Our fav Canadians (at this point they’re just honorary South Africans) Neon Dreams bring summery vibes with “It’s All Good”, while Yung Beathoven & Brogan The Band continue the optimism with their celebration of aimless youth, “Fun”.
Other highlights include Kay Faith’s “Top Ten”, taken from her debut album Antithesis – a tour de force of female hip-hop production; Mars Baby’s loveable sentimentality on “In The Dark”; ZuluMecca’s cooly vibrant latest single “Culture”; and amagotchi-JEEZUS’ “Bedtime at 3AM”, featuring Venus Vulani.
Fans of Billie Eilish will be glad to see her latest acoustic offering “The 30th”, alongside Stranger Things’ star Jamie Bower’s rowdy country-rock anthem “I Am”.
SA-sweethearts Beatenberg also appear in the mix with “Time Machine” – a wandering composition of off-kilter acoustics and warm falsettos, and to close things off, you’ll find the raw beauty of Ruby Gill’s newest single “If God Is The Pigeon”.
Amid flutters of bird calls, a chirping forest and a deft piano accompaniment, Gill manages to evoke a sonic atmosphere so vivid it’s hard not to feel moved.
Until next month, we hope you enjoy x
