We knew something was up when Kid Fonque announced his retirement from 5FM after more than six years on air with his Selective Sounds show, and we didn’t have to wait very long to find out the real reason.
Following a vibrant career in electronic music from DJ to Label Manager at the legendary Soul Candi Records, Defected Records last week announced that Kid Fonque (aka Allan Nicoll) had joined their ever-expanding team as Head of A&R in London.
A proud pioneer of South African and Mzsansi house music, Kid Fonque launched Stay True Sounds in 2016 with fellow producer Jullian Gomes, and played a pivotal role in launching the careers of many SA artists including China Charmeleon, SGVO, Bruce Loko, Dwson, Jazzuelle, Hypaphonik, Chronical Deep, Fka Mash and more.
Now in his new role as Head Of A&R at the biggest dance music label on the planet, Defected Records, you can be sure he’ll continue to rep SA by sourcing and plugging SA talent into Europe.
