Nic Billington takes a cold, hard, infectious look at modern societal norms in his new single and video, “Living To Die”

Hot on the heels of “Homesick”, a track that turned out to be one of his biggest hits, Nic Billington just dropped another bass-heavy banger for your boogie-worthy playlists. “Living To Die” pairs a heady, progressive beat with some knife-sharp commentary on the human condition and the societal norms we all take for granted.

Snappy percussive rhythm is cut through by laser synth. The pounding progressive beat is countered by Billington’s crooning vocalism, while lapses in beat balance things out. “Are we living to die/ living to die/ or dying while we’re living? […] take a pill to face the day,” comes the prevailing chorus line and it cuts a little too true, to my eye.

“Living To Die” is essentially about people’s unwillingness to change – a sentiment echoed in the shadowy video which counters shots of a ego-heavy Billington shouldering his way through a London Underground passageway before his antics get him beaten up, with a bloodied post-fight version of himself navigating a crippling lapse in judgment.

It’s sharp and attuned to the current day and age, bolstered by a bold beat bred for the dancefloor.
