Lloyiso (Loyiso Giyana) has one of those voices that if you sit, really sit, with it for too long, you’re going to end up in an Olympic-sized swimming pool of your own tears, crying about past loves, despite being blissfully happy in your current relationship. Take it from me. This man’s voice manages to infiltrate, and will probably unlock, even the hardest of hearts.
Seasons is also a chance for Lloyiso to show a more vulnerable side of himself than perhaps we’ve ever seen. Remember, this is a man whose career literally came to be on our screens – both TV and smartphones – and on his debut EP he’s giving us an insight into what makes him tick.
Written in between SA and LA, Seasons is a 7-track emotive tour de force, featuring production from Earwulf, Grammy-award-winning producers Mr. Hudson (John Legend, Janelle Monae, Jay-Z) and Stargate (Beyonce, Rihanna, Sam Smith) and it shows – this is a world class release that begs to be played on decent speakers.
Whether he’s reminiscing about a high school love in the style of a larger-than-life rom com (“What Would I Say”), or pleading with his significant other to let their guard down (“Let Me Love You Now”), the delivery of his cyclical nature of love and life smacks of early Khalid, while blazing his own path in the process.
Only Lloyiso’s honey-tinged vocals could turn a song about TikTok into a gut-wrenching ballad (“Where Do We Go [When We Need Love]”). That takes talent, something he has in droves.
