Mila Smith shines on a spirited ’70’s-flecked new single and video “You Need Therapy (Ready)”

Mila Smith just penned the ultimate letter to your ex and you might want to take some pointers because she’s got some stellar lines. Listed off her upcoming EP You Need Therapy – enough said – the title track “You Need Therapy (Ready)” just dropped alongside a hazy visual and it’s the ultimate post-breakup comeback.

The whole thing is steeping in delightfully retro ’70’s influence, from ABBA-esque instrumentals, grooving rhythm and pillowy melodics, to the big-hair, flower-spangled minidress aesthetic of the lyric video. Mila’s vocals are as punchy as they are gorgeously unpredictable, her lyrics knife-sharp and self-elevating in the best of ways.

“You shouldn’t call me on a Sunday/ must have lost your mind/ thought I told you we were over,” she lilts over the heady simplicity of the opening bars of the song. “Take your white flag home,” she adds a few seconds later, flipping the switch on a toxic ex trying to wheedle his way back into her life.

The track is rivetingly powerful, taking its cues from a woman who has stepped right back into her own strengths and is dropping her standards for no one. It comes as a relieved disconnection from a toxic dynamic, and a coming home to herself. All this delivered through a hazy, orange-dusted, retro-soaked lens just leaves me wanting more. And it’s coming. Watch this space.
