March has made way for some exceptional local releases, and we couldn’t wait to round them all up into a sexy playlist for you.
First up is the ecstatic Nalu with “Malachite and Melanin”. The track shimmers, and warps from a soft drum whisk into plucky pulls on heavy bass guitars; a tribute to R&B and a testament to Nalu’s smooth, complex vocals.
Next is Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys with new single “Rooms” taken from their upcoming album A Human Home, due for release in May. Swirling synths and a string arrangement draw you into the intimacy of Kruger’s mind with tender energy. Layered sounds build to an eventual break, left beneath murky electronic rhythms and the refrain “I just wanna be close.”
Taking the third spot is Muzi with his groovy, sexy, sweaty “Queen” remix featuring Dan Kye (a.k.a Jordan Rakei).
Other highlights include “The Awakening” by Kujenga, taken off their new album In The Wake, “Two Birds” by Moskitos and Hanna’s bold latest single “Pride”.
Summer’s almost over, but this playlist sure has the energy of a Saturday in the sun. Speaking of Saturday, isn’t it a long weekend?
