Maglera North West and Inanda Durban meet up in a whirlpool of urban sounds as producer BoArt and creative Montagioo create their new urban manifesto with THE NEXT WAV. The track itself, a melding of narrative and sound, reads as much as a play as it sounds like an EP – it has a story and it wants you to listen.
The streets of Joburg are a space one has to understand intimately, and this EP is all about the aesthetic, the culture and the nightlife of SA’s City of Gold. From the first bump of its back-layered synth sampling and kick beats, THE NEXT WAV. advertises honesty – the life of someone in Johannesburg is wild, but it is not without its beauty.
BoArt originally comes from a space of more emotive work, but with a fellow savant in Montagioo, they have managed to hit a perfect balance between honest and enjoyable. It never leans too far in one direction, always willing to put you in your place, and put the honesty forward.
The EP is raw, heavy and has an intentional build like a hero’s journey in a play – a joyous exploration of urban hip-hop and an honest reflection of a complex city.
