The acclaimed project dedicated to celebrating South African heritage through music, Rainbow Nation Kids, is set to release their highly anticipated sophomore album, Mzansi Lullabies, on July 26, 2024.
Founded by Lungi Naidoo, the project aims to revive traditional music within the education system while fostering cultural pride among the youth.
Mzansi Lullabies is a 15-track compilation blending the rich tapestry of Zulu children’s songs with original compositions crafted specifically as lullabies.
Six traditional Zulu children’s songs have been reimagined into soothing lullabies, complemented by nine original compositions penned and produced by Lungi Naidoo and Ryan Sackanary.
According to Lungi Naidoo a Rainbow Nation is who we are as South Africans, with the album being a testament to our diverse cultural heritage, representing a hopeful future for our children.
“This album stems from my recent journey into motherhood with my twins. I found solace in humming melodies to them, which not only helped them sleep but also inspired me to create something meaningful for all mothers out there. I wanted to share these comforting tunes that brought joy to my children with others,” Naidoo said about the inspiration behind the album.
This follows the success of Rainbow Nation Kids’ debut album, Zulu Nursery Rhymes, continuing to make significant strides in preserving South African musical traditions.
Lungi Naidoo collaborated with children from KwaZulu-Natal which resulted in an album as well as a corresponding book, aiming to reintroduce music into educational curricula across the country.
Listeners can pre-add Mzansi Lullabies on Apple Music now, anticipating a tranquil journey through South Africa’s musical and cultural landscapes.
